Mexico Orphanage Trip Saturday, Sept 29th
We returned to bless the beautiful children of Orfanatorio Emmanuel. It was one of the best times we've had there! The children are getting to know some that have been before and have developed new friendships as well. Here's what we did:- The children were blessed with a wonderful story time by Rosario Franco.
- Dr. Eric (pediatrician that was with us) gave every child check-up. He reported that it was really nice to see that they all doing well and are getting good care.
- Lots of fun crafts, yard activities, and games.
- A delicious lunch... hamburgers that were bigger than some of their heads. Plus, amazing street tacos!
- We thoroughly cleaned all the children's rooms, restrooms, hallways, and stairwells.
- We thoroughly cleaned their kitchen!
- We painted their back stairwell.
- We hung curtain rods in all the children's rooms.
- We fixed several doors and door jams.
- A drywall crew went back down to patch holds, work on several of their ceilings and door jams.
- Trips fees also provided the funds to do some badly needed roofing.
Malawi Discipleship Training Oct 21st-Nov 2nd, 2018
Pastor Carlos & Dr. Mark Williams have returned from our latest trip to Malawi. Here's what they did during this trip (from the words of Pastor Mark):
- We trained over 100 in Discipleship Journeys with Jesus and how to use the materials (which are now in Chichewa language).
- We trained all of these in "House Church Planting" for 2 days. This was in partnership with Dynamic Church Planting International (DCPI).
- We certified 23 Certified Trainers for the House Church Planting materials. (These can now train others in House Church Planting.
- We installed one water well in a village and repaired one in another village. I had the privilege of sharing the Gospel at the dedication and about 50 prayed to receive salvation.
- We showed the Jesus Film to a village and close to 300 people made decisions to accept Christ.
- We spoke at a fundraising church service to raise funds for a building for a new church plant (3 hours outside partially shaded under trees.
- We spoke to about 58 village chiefs to introduce DJJ (another outdoor meeting under trees for about 1.5 hours). Handed out 10 talking Bibles.
- We visited a mission station pioneered by the famous Scottish Missionary David Livingstone.

Malawi Mission Trip - August 2018
Days 1-3
Christy Carter: We were able to travel 22 hours and meet some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met in my life! Our team of 7 helped to put in 8 water wells and bring joy and the story of Jesus to 3 different villages, a total of over 72 families!!! God is good!!
Zac Beougher: Had a fantastic 2nd day here in Malawi, Africa!! The Reaching the Hungry team divided and conquered 3 wells along with games and coloring and bracelets with the women and children in each village. What a joy it is was to share the hope of Jesus with the whole village that I was at after installing the well. The Jesus film went great! Thank you, Norma, for sharing your story with the crowd there.
Day 4
Christy Carter: We were able to visit our partners orphanage. She runs the orphanage with little no help with 21 + children sometimes. She needs more support financially for those beautiful babies ....Wade Campbell: Today RTH Team moved to Nkhoma in the south to spend time with an amazing lady, Nicole, doing God’s work for orphans. Currently, there are 21 children ranging from 3 weeks to 9 years old. As you can see affection, love, tickling and laughter are the same on this side of the world. The children sang songs like “Jesus in the King of the Jungle” and “Jesus is the King of the Universe”. God’s spirit was high amongst us. After a short break we are heading back now to spend the evening with them.
Day 5
Norma Puerta: Blessed Sunday. - Our RtH team spent the day worshipping and connecting with the people of Dowa District. Our team leader, Zac, had an opportunity to share and encourage the congregation to preservere. After the service, the Chiefs meeting was held. Multiple Chiefs shared their testimonies of abandoning their faith in charms to place their faith in Jesus Christ; they encouraged and challenged one another to be the Christian leaders their villages need. Amen! We also held an reading glasses clinic and presented Talking Bibles to village chiefs to take back to their villages. This will help the villages continue strong in their faith and walk with Christ. Thank you to all of our supporters. The LORD is blessing Malawi.Christy Carter: Africa Day 5 - we drove 3.5 hours to attend a chiefs’ meeting of over 50 chiefs and many village members, a church service, and an eyeglass fitting for the people of the villages.
Zac Beougher: This Sunday in Malawi included a church service out in the bush in which we had the opportunity to preach, reading glasses clinic, share with the chiefs at their meeting, and then present them with Talking Bibles (audio recordings of the New Testament). Nicole (our friend who runs the orphanage we visited) was able to join us. Just a solid day 😊
Day 6
Christy Carter: Truly needed days of rest and reflection. The days in the villages were very long days and very emotional and thought-provoking days ... thank God for His beautiful creation of this world. There is so much to see and be thankful for!!Ty Campbell: Our Malawi team enjoyed a nice rest day after the last four days of work installing a record 8 water wells, spending time with the Chief Ministries, and playing with the children at an orphanage. We enjoyed some beautiful African landscapes and animals. Sharing the word of God with some of the locals that were our escorts is what our team is here to accomplish. Tomorrow, we’ll start with devotionals and another beautiful blessed day in Africa.
Days 7-9
Nathan Giles: Today was our day of rest and reflection here in Malawi. We’ve come to the last couple days of our time here and are starting to process through everything we have experienced. With four people on our team who have never been to Malawi before, it has been amazing to see how their perspectives have changed. At the same time, my fourth trip feels so much different from my first. No matter how many times I leave the U.S., I always seem to return changed in some way. It is this time of reflection that allows us to take a step back and discover how God has used these new experiences and relationships to shape us and our futures.Zac Beougher: The last days that brought this incredible trip to an end were full of rest, reflection and saying goodbye to our friends. It was also good to spend some time taking through how God has used this trip and process what happened. We gathered together as one team united, the Reaching the Hungry US and Malawi team for a Partners Dinner. Then, unfortunately, we had to say goodbye and the team has safely arrived back in LA. Thank you for everyone’s prayers and supporters for making this possible!! What an immense joy it is to be a part of what the Lord is doing and see how He is working in Malawi.

Malawi July 2018: Days 2 & 3 by Sophia Pelling
Day 2: Today we built two wells in two different villages. In one village we played corn hole and netball with the women. Then we shared bible stories and made embroidery crafts. The women liked to talk about Jesus and they knew a lot about Him. We shared our testimonies and they shared some of theirs. We all encouraged each other. Anna and Diana shared the gospel at the Jesus Film. We are all tired but enjoyed talking to the people.
Day 3: Today we built 2 more wells in 2 separate villages. In one village, we played corn hole with the women and made a sewing project. Although the gospel bracelets were originally meant for the kids, we had so many left over that we decided to make them with the women as well. They loved them! The women made bracelets for themselves, their husbands, and the chiefs. At the well ceremony one woman explained the beads and the gospel story. Both villages were exceptionally friendly and loving.

2016 Mexico Christmas Outreach
I could easily tell you many statistics about the successes of Reaching the Hungry in 2016. However I think a story is a more powerful testament to what God has done.
![]() |
| Hundreds of children received new shoes for Christmas. |
![]() |
| 1,000 people feed. |
On the December Mexico outreach trip while hundreds of volunteers were painting faces, feeding families, doing medical checks ups, dental work, eyeglasses fittings and giving over 500 children new pairs of shoes their was one moment of the day which stood out most. To the side of all the commotion, out of the way of the soccer game and balloons, the volunteers in the prayer tent got to see God's power.
![]() |
| Hundreds of people got medical care, teeth pulled, fitted for reading glasses, and acupuncture. |
![]() |
| Face painting, new shoes, balloon animals, soccer, family pictures, etc. |
One woman who was feeling forgotten, isolated, and buried by heavy stress and oppression came to the group for prayer. She shared that her husband was in jail. She told them that she was in pain. She could not forgive. She was losing hope. And it became apparent that she was spiritually oppressed. The group began praying for her, going to battle for her, they renounced the darkness, and they coaxed her to forgive.
One of the sweet ladies praying for her places her hands on the oppressed woman and when she ran out of words to pray asked God over and over to help her not be afraid. When the woman was finally able to forgive, she coughed and sputtered up blood, and the tension in the prayer tent finally broke. It was like a new feeling had come over all of them. The woman's whole countenance was changed. She was filled with light. Everyone could visibly see the hope returning to her face. By Jesus' name she was delivered from oppression and she began laughing and crying and hugging everyone close enough to touch.
Isn't God so good?! He orchestrated, planned, and mobilized hundreds of people to get every person where they needed to be so he could reach out and touch this woman in a tangible way and set her free. Going into the new year Reaching the Hungry can't wait to participate in ushering more light and hope into the lives of the forgotten, isolated, stressed, poor, and oppressed with the Gospel. Please continue to pray with us, over and over, that we will not be afraid to do everything God asks as we bring light to dark places. Pray that in 2017 we will tangibly represent Christ well. Thank you for all your support and for helping us see the impossible achieved for his kingdom.

Preaching in Wales By Olivia Sales
I'm in Wales! Land of fish, and rocks, and things to see! My time here so far has been so full of lovely people, incredible godly wisdom, and so much laughter and joy, I can't manage to write it all up. So instead of writing up a post this week, I thought I would share with you the same thing I preached in church on Sunday. So I've attached a link to it below.
The church, Bethel Chapel in Pembrook Dock, Wales was built in 1845. About 12 years ago, this small Baptist church went through series of changes and lost their pastor. For nine years the small (sometimes down to only four people) and almost all over 60+ years of age congregation kept the church running themselves because they strongly heard God telling them to do so. As a long awaited answer to prayer, Foursquare Pastors, Mike & Mary Bave have been pastoring here for the last three years and now Bethel Chapel has the remarkable quality of being of being a Foursquare Baptist church. I had the honor of teaching in this beautiful 171 year old sanctuary on Sunday to these incredibly faithful people who truly understand what it means to be the faithful remnant.
Much love & tea & biscuits,

About a week ago I got to be a part of one of my favorite things in this world: a house group. Now perhaps you think that is a strange thing for year 21 year old girl to be wildly excited about. That's fair. However, house groups have been my passion since I started leading them after high school and they are the reason I have decided to pursue full-time ministry. When done right, they are incredible for enacting change in your life, getting to learn more about God, and bringing you into healthy, strong community. I could probably wax eloquently further still on the subject but I think you catch my enthusiasm here.
I was given the opportunity to teach a leader training for house groups at my host site (like father, like daughter, eh?). The house group was product of this training and it was a wonderful thing to be a part of. It was a group of eight Iranian men who spoke mostly Farsi and only a few spoke minimal english, We sat around talked about the EuroCup final and one man played the harmonica beautifully while we waited for everyone to arrive. The group leader asked the men their reasons for coming. Through this simple question I heard several stories of lives led through Iran, Islam, alcoholism, and family trouble and out to finding God. I heard genuine and simple answers of “to learn more about God”, and one man even said that he came simply because he heard “an american lady” was coming and he wanted to know why I would come all this way just to talk with them. So sitting on a little couch, squashed between several Iranian expats and drinking tea out of a ceramic cow mug, I shared with the men the passion God has given me for house groups and the regular meeting of believers to “fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers”. (Acts 2:42-47)
Some of you may have read my previous post about being discouraged. I think that often we get discouraged when we lose sight of who we are, not simply who we think we are but who God intentionally created us to be. When I am taking part in or leading a house group, the feeling that God is saying “This is what I created you to do” washes over me. There I am in my element and I have such a clear view of this aspect of my identity in Christ. When I was taking part in this house group, I was so encouraged because I felt reaffirmed in my identity in Christ. Do you have something similar that reminds you of your identity in Christ?
In Ephesians 2, Paul writes about our new lives in Christ and pens these words “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Being created intentionally for specific work in Christ, if that isn’t identity what is? When we lose sight of this truth, we are bound to get discouraged.Yet, God is faithful. When I was discouraged, God reminded me of one of the things that He created me to do. What do you feel God created you for?

Grace (23) is leaving for the Philippines in January for 2 1/2 years. She'll be serving in a medical clinic as a midwife. If she hasn't had a chance to tell you about it, it's because she just returned from Nicaragua where the Lord confirmed her call to serve the poor overseas. Read about her call to become a midwife... HERE
Alison (21) just finished finals and returned yesterday from William Jessup University near Sacramento. She is in her last year of her Literature degree with a minor in Bible. She's planning to pursue further education.
Olivia (20) enjoyed a semester of Bible school in England and is currently immersed in a full-time ministry internship at our church. In the fall she'll transfer to Life Pacific Bible College to complete her degree in ministry.
Chase (16) is at Vista High School and loving it. He is also playing in the city basketball league. He loves sports and art. He has been growing a mustache this year! ;-)
My Mum, Zina (86) has come to live with us. She is doing well physically, but has started losing her short term memory. My father passed away 16-years ago.
Lisa (53) is still tutoring students and keeping our "Reaching the Hungry" books. She's been hiking a lot this year and loves it! She did the Freedom Climb this summer to raise money awareness to combat human trafficking by hiking 7 of the 14-teeners in Colorado in 4-days.
Carlos (54) is still running our 501(c)3 Reaching the Hungry ministry. He led mission's teams to Nicaragua twice, Malawi twice, India once, and Mexico about 8 times all this year! Plus, he officiates lots of weddings to help the girls with their college fees.

Malawi Mission's Trip - Oct 13-24, 2014
God is amazing and I'm truly blessed to have the privilege to serve Him!
.jpg)
Our Malawi Mission's Trip was incredible! God went way beyond what I expected.
Here are just a few of our highlights...
JESUS FILM
We showed the Jesus Film 4 times to about 5,000 people. Many accepted Christ as their Savior. Many Bible study groups will be started to disciple these new family members. ;-)

WATER WELLS
Our team installed 3 new water wells bringing not just the Living Water to these thirsty people, but life saving clean water to sustain their physical lives! One chief estimated 1,500 families would use the well we installed. No wells to be found for miles.
SHARING GOD'S WORD
With God's divine grace and courage He provided an opportunity for me to share John chapter 3, the story of Nicodemus, with 25 Group Village Heads (chiefs of chiefs). Many received Jesus' challenge to Nicodemus personally. New relationships and doors were opened.

2013 Was a Busy Year!
January - had 2 training sessions: 15 people were trained to install water well pumps and 8 were trained to teach church planting anywhere in the world. I attended Calvary Chapel's Mission's Conference. Went to Mexico twice to start an acre of vegetable farming for ministry partners at Rancho Poiema.
March & April - Went to Mexico for farming and outreach planning 3 times.May - Took 165 people from the USA to put on a big Outreach in Tijuana, Mexico with ministry partners in Mexico. Many people were blessed, many made decisions to follow Christ. Lisa and Carlos went to a Sabbath house (Genesee Home) for 5-days as a gift from The Father's House church staff. It was a week needed time of reset and refreshment for our relationship with each other and with God.
June & July - Went to Mexico 3 times to lead teams on short mission's trips.
August - Lead a mission's team to Vanuatu to build a church 4-hrs into the jungle. Many came to Christ and more are each day, since we left. 3 Chiefs and 1 witch doctor too! Mexico Back to School Outreach... took 300 backpacks filled with school supplies and bless the children in Rosarito with lunch, crafts, live music, etc.
September - Lead a mission's team to Mozambique to take 900 pounds of donations (350 Talking Bibles, 140 little girls dresses, 100 running shoes, 200 soccer jerseys, set of Craftsman power tools, EvangelCubes, mosquito nets, hand sanitizes, etc.). God used this team to raised over $82,000 for the projects to help Luke & Kristen Ride's ministry Cross Connection Outreach become self sustaining! Hundreds of lives were transformed... especially those that went on the trip! Led 1 Mexico Vision Trip this month.
QUOTES I RECEIVED FROM SOME TEAM MEMBERS:
- "In the past I thought I was going to be instrumental in blessing the people I would meet that are less fortunate. While I can safely say the efforts of this group and its supporters achieved that goal, the real blessing was for me. I am not the same person that left America four weeks ago, and I am pursuing the heartfelt joy that I witnessed in people that walk four hours every day, in each direction, to get a bucket of water. Statistically, one out of five people in these images have AIDs, and probably won’t be there next year." Skip Phillips
- "Forever changed isn't nearly adequate to explain my heart after those 2 weeks" Victoria Thomas
- "I returned home from 2 weeks in Mozambique September 21st. It's hard to put into words the impact this trip made on me personally. I am forever changed." Duncan Evans
October - 1 Mexico planning trip this month. RtH looking at the possibility of helping start a women's home. J.R. Organics (Joe Rodriguez went with me to Malawi Nov 2011) did a Farm Tour Water Well Fund Raiser for RtH. We raised $2,079 for a water well. ;-)
November - Postponed Malawi Water Well Mission's Trip to 2014. Was not able to get all the confirmations from Malawi partners in time in order to move forward. This will give us more time to raise funds for more water wells for our 2014 water well trip.
Saturday, Nov 23rd from 3-7pm RtH ENCOUNTER: MISSIONS at Brian & Roxanne Hicks' house in San Marcos. We showed the Jesus Film & trip videos, had testimonies from ministry partners and trip members, audio Bible distribution, EvangelCube demo, water well & farming displays, and other field demos.
December - Saturday, Dec 21st we had a Christmas Outreach in Rosarito, Mexico for 400 children with food, live music, face painting, balloon animals, Christmas gifts, the Christmas Story, etc. We took 85 people from churches in the US to help put on this Christmas Outreach with Isabel Monje our ministry partner. We saw many make decisions for Christ.
RtH had a wonderful year thanks to your partnership!
