Mexico Christmas Outreach Saturday, Dec. 8th
We are partnering with a church in Tijuana, Mexico to host a Christmas Outreach on Saturday, Dec 8th. We're collecting Christmas gifts, blankets, & dry goods to bless 300 children & their families in this community. We're also having medical, dental, and reading glass clinics to serve the people. We will also have lots of food, and lots of fun activities for the children! Will you join us?

Safety Note: We are in close communication with our partners in Mexico and they have assured that it is safe to cross the border and back into the U.S. during this time. Pastor Carlos will being going down a couple days before the outreach to insure that there aren't any issues.

If you can't make it but would like to send Christmas gifts with us for the outreach, check out our Amazon Christmas WishList (it will send automatically to our donation intake for the outreach).

Mexico Orphanage Trip Saturday, Sept 29th
We returned to bless the beautiful children of Orfanatorio Emmanuel. It was one of the best times we've had there! The children are getting to know some that have been before and have developed new friendships as well. Here's what we did:

  • The children were blessed with a wonderful story time by Rosario Franco.
  • Dr. Eric (pediatrician that was with us) gave every child check-up. He reported that it was really nice to see that they all doing well and are getting good care.
  • Lots of fun crafts, yard activities, and games.
  • A delicious lunch... hamburgers that were bigger than some of their heads. Plus, amazing street tacos!
  • We thoroughly cleaned all the children's rooms, restrooms, hallways, and stairwells.
  • We thoroughly cleaned their kitchen!
  • We painted their back stairwell.
  • We hung curtain rods in all the children's rooms.
  • We fixed several doors and door jams.
  • A drywall crew went back down to patch holds, work on several of their ceilings and door jams.
  • Trips fees also provided the funds to do some badly needed roofing.
Here's a VIDEO from this trip as well as some PICTURES.

Malawi Discipleship Training Oct 21st-Nov 2nd, 2018
Pastor Carlos & Dr. Mark Williams have returned from our latest trip to Malawi. Here's what they did during this trip (from the words of Pastor Mark):
  • We trained over 100 in Discipleship Journeys with Jesus and how to use the materials (which are now in Chichewa language).
  • We trained all of these in "House Church Planting" for 2 days. This was in partnership with Dynamic Church Planting International (DCPI).
  • We certified 23 Certified Trainers for the House Church Planting materials. (These can now train others in House Church Planting.
  • We installed one water well in a village and repaired one in another village. I had the privilege of sharing the Gospel at the dedication and about 50 prayed to receive salvation.
  • We showed the Jesus Film to a village and close to 300 people made decisions to accept Christ.
  • We spoke at a fundraising church service to raise funds for a building for a new church plant (3 hours outside partially shaded under trees.
  • We spoke to about 58 village chiefs to introduce DJJ (another outdoor meeting under trees for about 1.5 hours). Handed out 10 talking Bibles.
  • We visited a mission station pioneered by the famous Scottish Missionary David Livingstone.

2016 Mexico Christmas Outreach

I could easily tell you many statistics about the successes of Reaching the Hungry in  2016. However I think a story is a more powerful testament to what God has done.

Hundreds of children received new shoes for Christmas.
1,000 people feed.

On the December Mexico outreach trip while hundreds of volunteers were painting faces, feeding families, doing medical checks ups, dental work, eyeglasses fittings and giving over 500 children new pairs of shoes their was one moment of the day which stood out most. To the side of all the commotion, out of the way of the soccer game and balloons, the volunteers in the prayer tent got to see God's power.

Hundreds of people got medical care, teeth pulled, fitted for reading glasses, and acupuncture.
Face painting, new shoes, balloon animals, soccer, family pictures, etc.

One woman who was feeling forgotten, isolated, and buried by heavy stress and oppression came to the group for prayer. She shared that her husband was in jail. She told them that she was in pain. She could not forgive. She was losing hope. And it became apparent that she was spiritually oppressed. The group began praying for her, going to battle for her, they renounced the darkness, and they coaxed her to forgive.

One of the sweet ladies praying for her places her hands on the oppressed woman and when she ran out of words to pray asked God over and over to help her not be afraid. When the woman was finally able to forgive, she coughed and sputtered up blood, and the tension in the prayer tent finally broke. It was like a new feeling had come over all of them. The woman's whole countenance was changed. She was filled with light. Everyone could visibly see the hope returning to her face. By Jesus' name she was delivered from oppression and she began laughing and crying and hugging everyone close enough to touch.

Isn't God so good?! He orchestrated, planned, and mobilized hundreds of people to get every person where they needed to be so he could reach out and touch this woman in a tangible way and set her free. Going into the new year Reaching the Hungry can't wait to participate in ushering more light and hope into the lives of the forgotten, isolated, stressed, poor, and oppressed with the Gospel. Please continue to pray with us, over and over, that we will not be afraid to do everything God asks as we bring light to dark places. Pray that in 2017 we will tangibly represent Christ well. Thank you for all your support and for helping us see the impossible achieved for his kingdom.

"One Fine Day" By Anna & Mary Ann Nunez

As a parents, one of our main goals has always been for our kids to recognize others' needs and to take action. With Pokémon running amok, and media blaring its paradoxical mantra, You are EVERYTHING! You are NOTHING!; it is quite a daunting task.

I am so grateful to Reaching The Hungry for giving our family big and small opportunities for service. We were thrilled to join them for a one-day trip to partner with a church and a lovely pastor in the hills above Ensenada, Mexico.

I wondered what my 12 year old had taken away from such a short trip. In her own words:

One Day Could Change A Life
By Anna Nunez

What could one day do for someone in need? This is a question that might have crossed your mind once or twice. I got a chance to really look at this question close up. On a one-day trip to Mexico with Reaching The Hungry I saw this in a different way. When I arrived, I wasn't thinking of what the people's future would be like, but what their needs were right then. That question still needs an answer though. The answer is:  it can do plenty. It can mean a lot to the parent of the child you entertained so that she could have a minute to rest. Or to the person who listened to you speak about God and decided to invite Him into their life. What about the person you gave medicine to that helped him/her or their family. When you see these people's needs it puts an aching in your heart. You want to help. That is why trips like this are so important. There is so much need in the world that we can't ignore. It only takes a day to make a difference. It says in Matthew 28:19-20 " Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in them in the name of the Father, the son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you to the very end of the age." The most amazing part is receiving power from the Holy Spirit. It also says in Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." I could feel that power with me wherever I went.

Wow! She felt an ache in her heart; she felt the power of the Holy Spirit. This mamma wept tears of joy at these words. I agree with Anna's title, One Day Could Change a Life; and it just might be yours.

Back-to-School Mexico Outreach - Aug 29, 2015

It’s that time of the year again... "Back to school!"  On Saturday, August 29th, Reaching the Hungry brought together a group of 65 willing people, piled into vans and headed down to Tijuana, Mexico to help children and families prepare for the new school year! The group consisted of a worship team from Iglesia Jerusalem, Reaching the Hungry volunteers, Worldwide Transformation Ministries, and a youth group from Saddleback Church.

Trevor Berges (green shirt) took his 11-year-old son, Tanner, on his first mission trip with Reaching the Hungry.
“First mission trip with Tanner and me. Good day in Mexico with Reaching The Hungry ministry. Amazing time!”
Tijuana is a very poor community with a great need of support. How beautiful it is when communities come together to help another community in need. About 300 hundred backpacks filled with school supplies, were collected and distributed to children. Each family also had check-ups from the medical team from Project Compassion and glasses were prescribed and given when needed. At noon, volunteers made and handed out around 500 meals for children and families.

All these things are wonderful acts and gifts of kindness and love. But all of it is completely meaningless if it weren’t for the common denominator: the hope of the Gospel. The good news of Jesus Christ is what ties it all together. Not only were the needs of the physically hungry met, but also the spiritually hungry had an opportunity to “ taste and see that the Lord is good,” Psalm 34:8

Briana Kwiatek recalls of her time in Mexico:

"I had been to Mexico twice before, but this time was different. This time we went to a community of shanties comprised of plastic and scraps of wood. I hadn't seen poverty like this before in my entire life. The kids were so excited to see us and had been waiting since the early morning for our arrival, anxious to receive the gifts we had brought. We got to work right away, making hundreds of lunches and putting together the school supplies and backpacks. My favorite part of the day was getting to meet the children and hand out stickers. As I walked down the line of children waiting for their gifts, I would ask "Cual color quieres? --Which color do you want?" They were so excited to receive a little smiley face sticker. I got to look each of them in the eyes and show them in a small way that they were special, and they had value. That's what these trips are all about, showing people that they are worth it. That God loves them more than anything and that they are valuable."

We are called to not only bring the good news of the Gospel, but to also live it out. To share the truth that there is rest for the weary, hope for the hopeless, food for the hungry, a home for the orphaned, and safety for the abandoned. That is what these trips are all about. Thank you to all the volunteers and the very generous donations of the communities that helped make this trip happen. See you on the bus next time!

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings the good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." Isaiah 52:7
